Important Notes on Password Security

Important Notes on Password Security for Your Business's Online Presence

If you’re like most companies, then you have an online marketing strategy. Odds are, there are a lot of different components to this strategy, from a website to a social media presence. One of the things you need to be careful of when creating online marketing for your business is password safety. If someone hacks your password, then a lot of sensitive data can be exposed and/or stolen.

The following are a few tips that you should keep in mind in order to ensure password security:

Don’t use predictable formulas  – Many companies will follow a formula when creating their passwords. For example, they’ll capitalize the first letter of the password, use a name, place or a common word as the base and then add the number 1 or 2 afterward. Avoid these formulas as they are pretty easy to crack.

Make sure every password is unique – Don’t use similar passwords across the board just because it makes it easier for you to remember. Each account should have a unique password. If one of them gets hacked, the odds that the others get hacked will be pretty good.

Make your passwords random – Don’t make your passwords easy to remember. There will be too many of them anyway, which means they have to be written down somewhere off-site. Make the passwords completely random. In fact, the base of your password doesn’t even have to be a real word, just a random assortment of letters, numbers, and symbols.

These are a few basic tips that you need to keep in mind when creating a password for your many online accounts in order to ensure that they are secure. For more tips on online marketing for your business, contact us at MediaFirst today.
